Casting Call

The Eighth Muse seeks actors for a short film, “The Birch Queen.” For more information on the film, please check out the "Birch Queen" project proposal.

Shooting will take place in the spring and summer of 2009, on weekends, in New Hampshire. Most shooting will be outdoors. Actors with a sense of adventure preferred.

Cast-members will receive meals at shoots, reimbursement for gas money, credit on the film, and a copy of the completed film. There is no up-front pay, but we will offer deferred pay for major roles.

Most roles involve elaborate costume and make-up. Actors of any ethnicity are encouraged to apply for any role. We will consider actors who do not have professional experience if they are committed to treating this as a professional project.

CASTING FOR:

THE BIRCH QUEEN, female, thirties or older. A tree-spirit with a depth of life experience. This part has the most dialogue and the actress should have a strong vocal presence.

DIAMEN, male, early twenties. A mystic and adventurer of the ancient woods. Must be comfortable doing a romantic scene with another man (no sex or nudity).

LETHE-SONO, male, late teens or early twenties. A spirit of creation disguised as a young man. Must be comfortable doing a romantic scene with another man (no sex or nudity). This is a non-speaking role.

THE BLACKBERRY CHIEF, male, twenties or thirties. A woodland entrepreneur and collector of rare items.

THE BIRCH PRINCESS, female, twenties or thirties. An inquisitive roving tree spirit.

GREENBRIAR SPIRITS, two males. Non-speaking roles, looking for actors who can create creepy moving characters in elaborate costume.
